No. Span, load, and species belong on the plans or with an engineer.

- Read the dimension on the sheet before you scale it.
- Crown joists the same way and measure from the same end.
- Use the board-foot and stair calculators, then check the adopted stair rules.
- If two sheets disagree, write an RFI. Do not pick the easy number.
Common questions
Are stair risers just the total rise divided up?
The calculator splits the rise. The adopted code still sets the maximum riser and minimum tread, and they have to match.
